Refunding Payments

Learn how to refund a client payment, confirm the refund with your payment provider, and review the updated invoice balance.

Written by Naomi Sherman

Choose the original payment, enter the refund amount, and review the remaining paid balance. Confirm the provider result.

Why this matters

The event invoice brings together what the client owes, what was requested, and what was received. Review the balance and provider result before changing a schedule, recording a payment, or promising a refund.

Before you start

Open the correct event and invoice. Confirm the existing balance and any recorded payments.

In Releventful

  1. Use Search Events to find the event, open its side panel, and choose Financials under Event Sections. Open the original successful payment and click Refund.

  2. Enter the amount and review the confirmation, then click Refund Payment.

  3. Reopen the payment and provider result to confirm the refund and updated invoice balance.

How to make the most of this step

Open the original successful online payment and use its refund action where available. Review the amount before confirming, then check the provider's result and the remaining invoice balance. Editing the invoice or recording a credit is not the same as returning money to the client.

A useful decision

Use the configured provider's transaction status to confirm whether funds moved. An invoice can show a successful payment before the bank deposit arrives; a refund must be confirmed separately.

Check the result

Review the updated invoice, payment schedule, and client balance. Confirm live payment or refund results with the provider.

Important to know

Editing an invoice record is different from collecting or returning money. Confirm online payment or refund results with the configured provider.
