Failed Payments

Learn how to review and resolve failed payments by checking the provider status, remaining balance, and payment schedule before requesting another payment.

Written by Naomi Sherman

Open the failed payment to see the provider result and remaining balance. Decide whether the client should retry or the schedule needs correction.

Why this matters

The event invoice brings together what the client owes, what was requested, and what was received. Review the balance and provider result before changing a schedule, recording a payment, or promising a refund.

Before you start

Open the correct event and invoice. Confirm the existing balance and any recorded payments.

In Releventful

  1. Use Search Events to find the event, open its side panel, and choose Financials under Event Sections. Open the invoice and select the failed payment.

  2. Read the provider result, amount and any later successful attempt; compare them with the remaining balance.

  3. If another request is appropriate, click Request Payment Again and confirm it; if the schedule is wrong, edit it and click Save.

  4. Reopen Payments to verify the new request or correction before contacting the client.

How to make the most of this step

Open the failed payment from the invoice and read the provider result. Check whether another attempt succeeded, the remaining balance, and the next scheduled charge before reissuing a request or asking the client to retry. Rae can help interpret the record, but provider status is the source for whether money moved.

A useful decision

Use the configured provider's transaction status to confirm whether funds moved. An invoice can show a successful payment before the bank deposit arrives; a refund must be confirmed separately.

Check the result

Review the updated invoice, payment schedule, and client balance. Confirm live payment or refund results with the provider.

Important to know

Editing an invoice record is different from collecting or returning money. Confirm online payment or refund results with the configured provider.
