How Workflow Changes Affect Existing Events

Learn how workflow changes affect existing events and how to control which updates are applied when publishing.

Written by Naomi Sherman

Review the impact on existing events when publishing a change. Already sent messages cannot be recalled through a workflow edit.

Why this matters

A workflow repeats work for the right event at the right time. Rae can prepare a complete draft quickly; your team then checks every starting condition, recipient, message, and task before publishing.

Before you start

Know the event or lead condition that should start the workflow and who should receive each action.

In Releventful

  1. In the saved draft, click Review event impact and inspect the eligible event list.

  2. Tick only the proposed changes to apply to existing events, and read the publish confirmation.

  3. Click Publish and apply selected changes to update those events, or leave them unticked and click Publish workflow settings; inspect the result list.

How to make the most of this step

Open Review event impact after reviewing the saved draft. The impact list shows eligible existing events and proposed changes. Select only the changes you want to apply. Publishing settings for future work is distinct from publishing and applying selected changes to existing events. Already sent messages and completed work remain part of the event history.

A useful decision

A template or workflow change should not be assumed to rewrite every active event. Review the impact list and select existing events deliberately, especially when clients have already received a message.

Check the result

Preview a matching example and monitor the first live run. Confirm any message reached the intended person.

Important to know

A saved draft is not live. New items begin off for review. A published workflow can send real messages or create tasks when its conditions are met; existing events require their own impact review.
