Sales Stages and How They Work

Learn how to update a lead’s sales stage based on their progress and understand how stage changes may trigger automated follow-up.

Written by Naomi Sherman

A sales stage records where a lead stands. Moving a lead can also start an enabled campaign or workflow, so the stage should describe a real client decision.

Before you start

Read the lead’s most recent reply, proposal status, and outstanding tasks before changing its stage.

In Releventful

  1. Click Pipeline in the top bar and click the lead card.

  2. Read Overview and Activity. Check whether the client has only asked a question, received a proposal, accepted an offer, booked, or declined.

  3. Click Quick Actions > Edit Sales Info, choose the stage matching that evidence, and click Save Sales Info.

  4. Reopen the lead card. Confirm the stage in Overview and check Activity and scheduled campaign work for any new email, task, or workflow.

Important to know

Closed - Won and Closed - Lost have special functions in Releventful for identifying won and lost business. You can rename and reorder these stages, but their underlying functions remain the same.

Sales Stage changes can also trigger Sales Campaigns and other workflows. Before renaming, reordering, or changing how your team uses a stage, review any automations connected to it.
