Understanding Account Test Mode

Account Test Mode allows you to safely test email notifications, automations, workflows, and other account activity before using your account with real customers.

When Account Test Mode is turned on, Releventful redirects email notifications to the business email address defined on your account instead of sending them to the customer’s email address on file.

Test Mode is intended for testing examples, sample events, and internal workflows. It should not be used with real customer data unless you are prepared for those communications to be sent when Test Mode is turned off.

What Test Mode is used for

Test Mode is designed to help you test your account setup before going live.

You can use Test Mode to review examples such as:

  • Email notification content

  • Automation timing and behavior

  • Event notification workflows

  • Proposal, contract, invoice, or planning-related notifications

  • Internal account setup and process testing

For best results, use Test Mode with sample events, sample clients, and test data only.

What Test Mode is not used for

Test Mode should not be used as a way to test real customer activity while preventing those customers from ever receiving communications.

If you are working with actual customers, real events, real email addresses, or real phone numbers, Test Mode should be turned off.

Test Mode does not permanently suppress or cancel every communication created while it is enabled. Some communication activity may still exist as pending activity in the account.

When Test Mode is turned off, any pending communication activity or notifications may be sent to the email address or SMS number on file.

Important: Use sample data while testing

If you are testing your account setup, we strongly recommend using test examples only.

For example, you may create:

  • A sample event

  • A sample customer contact

  • A sample proposal

  • A sample contract

  • A sample invoice

  • A sample planning form

This allows you to review your workflow without creating real customer communication activity.

If you need to test with an actual customer, Test Mode should be turned off before creating or triggering customer-facing activity.

What happens to emails in Test Mode?

While Test Mode is enabled, emails are redirected to the business email address defined on your account.

This means that instead of sending the email directly to the customer’s email address, Releventful sends the test email to your business email address so you can review it.

In some cases, duplicate emails may be sent during Test Mode. For example, an event notification may generate one email addressed to you and another email addressed to your client, while both are still redirected to the business email address.

This helps you see what different recipients would receive during a real workflow.

What happens when Test Mode is turned off?

When Test Mode is turned off, your account returns to normal sending behavior.

At that point, customer-facing emails and notifications will be sent to the actual email addresses on file.

Important: Any pending communication activity or notifications that were created while Test Mode was enabled may be sent after Test Mode is turned off.

Before turning Test Mode off, review your account carefully and confirm that you are not using real customer records, real events, or pending notifications that should not be sent.

SMS is not supported in Test Mode

SMS messages are not available while Account Test Mode is enabled.

SMS can only be tested using non-business phone numbers. Because of this, SMS testing is not supported through Account Test Mode.

If you need to test SMS notifications, Test Mode must be turned off, and you should use an appropriate test contact with a valid non-business phone number.

Recommended testing process

Before going live, we recommend the following process:

  1. Turn on Account Test Mode.

  2. Create sample customers and sample events.

  3. Test your email notifications and workflows using sample data.

  4. Review the emails sent to your business email address.

  5. Make any necessary updates to your templates, automations, or account settings.

  6. Delete or clean up sample records that are no longer needed.

  7. Confirm there is no pending communication activity tied to real customers.

  8. Turn off Account Test Mode when you are ready to use your account with real customers.

Before turning Test Mode off

Before disabling Test Mode, confirm the following:

  • You are ready for communications to be sent to real customers.

  • You are not relying on Test Mode to suppress customer notifications.

  • Any test activity was created using sample customers and sample events.

  • Any real customer data in the account is ready for live communication.

  • You have reviewed any pending communication activity or notifications.

Once Test Mode is turned off, pending communication activity and future notifications will be sent to the email addresses or SMS numbers on file.

Summary

Account Test Mode is a tool for testing your setup with sample data before going live.

It is not intended for testing real customer workflows while permanently preventing communications from being sent.

If you are working with actual customers, Test Mode should be turned off.

When Test Mode is turned off, any pending communication activity or notifications may be sent to the email address or SMS number on file.

SMS is not available in Test Mode and must be tested outside of Test Mode using a valid non-business phone number.
