Set up automatic client payments with Stripe

Learn how to set up automatic payments in Releventful.

Written by Releventful Support

Automatic payments let an authorized saved method be charged for supported future payments. A reminder asks a client to pay and does not itself charge them.

  1. Prepare the invoice and payment requests. Review amounts and due dates.

  2. Ask the client to open an invoice payment.

  3. Where offered, the client can select Automatically pay remaining payments while completing payment. They must authorize that choice.

  4. After submission, check the saved automatic-payment status and schedule. Paying once does not prove automatic payments are on.

Manage future charges

Open the invoice's Payments area and the payment to review settings. Confirm which client and invoice the authorization covers. Un-enroll Client from Auto-Pay stops supported future collections; it does not cancel a transaction already processing.

What to expect

Supported automatic payments follow scheduled due dates. Account settings, saved-method authorization and payment mode must allow them. Automatic payments are not guaranteed: methods can expire, funds can be unavailable and attempts can fail. Check the actual result and later attempts before charging again.

Staff helping during a call need the client's permission before selecting automatic-payment authorization. Never request payment credentials through chat or email.

Stripe requirements

Use standard Releventful-managed Stripe payments. In Processing, Stripe Payment Management must be off for Releventful automatic payments. The account and method must also support automatic payments. Only offer the choice shown in checkout.

Check the account setting

Authorized account administrators can open Settings > Payment Setup > Payment Processor and review Automatic Payments. If it is off, use Turn On Automatic Payments before offering the supported client choice. This setting applies across the account's users and businesses. Turning it on lets clients opt in; it does not authorize charges for them.
